The Husband and I had a great weekend despite the pouring rain on Friday and Sunday. We stayed at the Half Moon Bay Inn in downtown. It's a 15-room inn above a bustling Italian restaurant. The restaurant was a little noisy at times, but their live guitar music was an unexpected bonus.

It started Friday night. I decided to make an artichoke frittata to take to Spin-In. It's a pretty easy dish to make and it's better if you make it the day before.

Winter is not presenting any appealing garden pictures to take. You can only take so many pictures of dead leaves and paperwhite narcissus. I gave the Husband several packs of flower seeds and bulbs for Christmas. Eventually these will produce flowers to photograph.

I've been a bad crafter. :( I failed to complete the Christmas present I was making. [sigh] Well, not totally. I got part of it done, but not all. I'm madly working away at it so I can mail it out a soon as I can.

The cioppino turned out great and everyone enjoyed it,  For dessert, I made a Grand Marnier chocolate mousse. Today, I finished packing all the cookies, biscotti, breads, nuts, and bark. Here they are before I put them in their bags.



This represents gifts for 21 people, including the ones I need to mail after Christmas. I also made  a double batch of Chile-Lime Nuts and a batch of fudge.

On Saturday, I baked gingerbread cutouts, chocolate drop cookies, and polvorones. I also made a double batch of fruitcake biscotti. Today's eye candy was a little challenging to get. The garden is in it's almost winter state...not a lot of flowers or interesting plants to photograph. The most interesting thing we have growing are brown chile peppers (not exactly photogenic) and pomegranates (I have lots of pomegranate pictures already).  So you get clouds!

I need to finish the ecru stitches in the center area and enlarge the openings for the eyelets. Once I have established the size of the eyelets, I can go back and do some fill-in stitching around them. I chose not to stitch too close to the eyelet openings to avoid [I hope!] having to frog stitches.

The Tealing Groovy quilt is almost done. I have to finish the binding, snip the loose threads, and finish the ties on the quilt cover. It's not the best quilt I've ever made, but it's a utility quilt and doesn't need to be perfect. 
I'm still working on the first pattern repeat for the Peacock Pomatomus socks. This week was just completely out of control from the very beginning. Between project stuff and HR stuff, my time just gets sucked into a black hole. Stir in a few doctor appointments and there if nothing left over by the end of the day. It looks like next week is going to be more of the same...

At least I have an excuse for today. I have a doctor's appointment at 2:30 that will take big chunk out of my day. Monday was just a blur.

Spin In on Sunday was wonderful! I finished the first 4 ounces of an 8-ounce bump of Creatively Dyed wool-bamboo-seacell fiber. The food was yummy and the company was great, as always.

So, I couldn't resist the Bollywood fiber.  I hadn't ever plied with sequins and I'd only plied with beads once. I just had to try it.

I strung the beads and sequins on some gold rayon thread I had leftover from a previous yarn. Both of these samples came with sequins and the red also had some gold beads. I plan on plying the red single with the add-ins, but I'm not sure about the other. I wasn't in love with the colors when I opened the box, but adding the pink silk to it really helped.

Tour de Fleece days 19, 20 &amp; 21: I had very little time to spin over the last 3 days. I managed to spin Silver Lake for an hour on Tuesday, 45 minutes on Wednesday, and about 30 minutes last night. The why of it follows with some sort-of Eye Candy..

Day 17: This was a rest day and boy, did I need it. I spent the time designing the quilt label for my commissioned quilt and then printing it.

Day 18: I started spinning Silver Lake, a Zen top from Lisa Souza:



It weighs 4 ounces and is 50% Merino, 25% Tussah silk, and 25% Bamboo. I only spent an hour on it because I needed to sew the label on the quilt. I ran one errand and then enjoyed a nice Starbucks latte with my breakfast. 

I dove right into the quilt and got about half of the binding hand sewn before my fingertips gave out. At least I didn't prick myself this time!

This yarn is has a few segments that are energized, but for the most part it's pretty balanced. The Husband got up at 3am to leave for Seattle and I couldn't get back to sleep. So I spent most of the day in a fog and nearly fell asleep at my desk!  After dinner, I recovered a bit and managed to get an hour of spinning done. I'll probably get the same amount done tonight, but Spin-In will get me back on track.
