Stitches West 2019...
...yeah, I disappeared for a few days. It was a little crazy at work on Monday and Tuesday while I caught up on things that happened while I was out for Stitches. So here's a recap of what happened since my last post.
Stitches West, Thursday:
It was a very busy day. Because it was going to be a late night (ending around 9:30pm), I got to the convention center early so I could park as close to the building as possible. I didn't really want to walk in a dark parking lot late at night.
My class wasn't until 1:30, so I chatted with people, knitted on a charity hat, and had my lunch. Class was only 90 minutes long. I learned a lot about lace edgings from JC Briar.
Market opened at 5pm and for the first time ever, I did not line up to go inside. I waited until 5:15 - by then there was no line. I headed straight for Greenwood Fiberworks and bought fiber. My next stops were knitbaahpurl for a t-shirt, and Bar-Maids for hand and feet creams. I checked out Crafty Flutterby's shawl pins and she had a mermaid one! Bought it, obviously! I looked at the booths that had special colorways for the show and fell in love with Dragonfly Fiber's Mission District in Sparkle fiber. And I fell in love with a shawl pattern at Stunning String Studio, so I did a "build your own kit" with yarn colors that were more me.
I did not shop until 8pm. Instead I stopped early and took my purchases to my car. I had hoped to grab something for dinner, but none of the concessions were open in the market and the hotel concessions were close. Oh, well...crackers would have to hold me over until I could get food.
I attended the Franklin Habit at 8:30pm. The talk was fun, but it was supposed to last an hour. It only lasted 45 minutes and I was pretty tired by then. Not sure it was worth staying that late for a 45 minute talk, no matter how amusing.
Stitches West, Friday:
I did a quick spin of the Market before meeting a friend for shopping and lunch. I had seen the special colorway, Monterey, from Destination Yarns on Friday. On Saturday, I went back to the booth and bought it and a compatible skein of Arabian Sea. This will be either a long scarf or a wrap.
My friend had a few things she wanted me to look at and help her picked colors. She was also interested in the lateral swifts from Oregon Woodworker. I showed her an alternative lateral swift that I think is better made, but did not have a counter.
Together, we fell in love with the Saratoga Shawl from Greenwood Fiberworks. We both got the pattern, and I bought 2 skeins of Yakity-Yak yarn in Calypso. I also bought some knitting kits for tiny animals from Apple Yarns.
When I got home, I checked my email and I'd won a prize in the Stitches Scavenger hunt!
Stitches West, Saturday:
I arrived about 40 minutes after the Market opened and it was really busy already. I headed right to the Buffalo Wool Booth for my prize. I drew a $50.00 gift certificate from Starlight Knitting Society! I headed over to their booth and after looking through everything :-), I chose this:
I also bought one of their pins. They put it all in a logo bag. Yay!
I bought one last braid of top from Greenwood Fiberworks. I checked out one of the new vendors, Alexandra - The Art of Yarn and bought two braids of fiber from them. I found a couple of pairs of cute socks. And my last purchase was a Moon shawl pin from Stunning String Studio. Whew!!
At that point, I decided that I didn't need to go back on Sunday. I bought a lot of really nice things, chatted with some wonderful knitters over the 3 days, and had a great time.
