WIP-it Wednesday...

...I ran out of time yesterday to post.

I was trying to make my Ribbet app (Mac OS) talk to Flickr again, but it just wouldn't connect. I use Ribbet to edit all of my photos and it's usually easy to save edited versions directly to Flickr. However, with Flickr's latest upgrade, many things are still not working correctly. I gave up and went through the browser version of Ribbet to upload my photos.

The majority of my 3-day weekend was spent working on the Shimmering Points Wrap [Ravelry]. I finally threaded all of the heddles. I had set-aside the number of heddles needed for each shaft according to the iWeaveit program. As it turned out, the number wasn't quite right, but that was no biggie. As it turned out, I found a couple of empty heddles in the mix, where I pulled 2 over instead of one. Fortunately, the pattern is correct, so the empty heddles can just hang out where they are.

The pattern calls for 2 threads per slot in a 12-dent reed. I started sleying the reed from the center to the right. Everything came out even in that direction - no missed slots, 2 threads in each. Then I sleyed from center to the left...and I came out with 1 thread at the end. Rats! I found where I accidentally put 3 threads in the slot instead of 2 (and of course it was almost at the beginning). I went back and resleyed that half of the reed correctly. Whew!

I wanted to lash on the warp instead of the tie-up I normally use. I've had a lot of problems keeping the selvedge-end warp threads at the same tension as the rest of the warp. I didn't have the right kind of cord (nothing slick enough), so I took a quick trip to Michael's to get some nylon cord. I did the preliminary lash-on and found a problem with one of my warp threads. See the loose thread in front of the reed:

And behind the reed:

I tied that bundle again and picked up the slack thread. Then I needed to address the back of the loom. When I removed the raddle, it got caught on some of the threads below and clumped up some of the warp on the back beam:

I tried to smooth these out as best as I could. Then it was time to weave! I didn't get very far, but at least I can see the pattern emerging!

Shimmering Points Wrap, in progress

During the threading and sleying process, I needed to take some breaks to give my shoulders a rest. I did a little spinning, ran a few errands, and did a few chores. While I never got to play with my camera, it was still a very productive weekend!
