WIP-it Wednesday...
...a little organization and a new WIP!
I've needed to go through the contents of a storage basket that's been sitting unopened for 5 years (oops), but just hadn't wanted to spend the time on it. I had stored a bunch of doll clothes that I had cut out but never sewn together - the clothes were for my daughter's Cabbage Patch and Barbie dolls. She's 42 now and I don't think she's interested in them anymore! On Monday, I was reorganizing some fiber and loom tools that were on top of the basket, so it was time.
I had forgotten how many items I had cut out for those dolls! Unfortunately, most of the pins had rusted, making the fabric pieces and the pins useless. I managed to salvage some of the patterns and either set them aside to keep or put them into the Goodwill pile. Those that I couldn't salvage went into recycling. Since I had to file the ones I'm keeping, I took the opportunity to go through my craft patterns and found several unused patterns that I could donate. I still need to go through my clothing patterns, but that's for another day.
I've been wanting to start a new weaving project, but wasn't ready to warp the big loom. The Knitters Loom would be perfect to do the next project. Plus I already had two Lion Brand Cupcakes (yarn) in the Forest Path colorway that I though would make an interesting warp.
I opened the loom's storage bag and found a mess. I had forgotten that I had made two homemade temples and used barley for the weight because I didn't have anything else. Well, you know what happened...bug city! The loom was unharmed, as well as my clamps and other tools. However, a lot of the rolled paper I used to separate the warp was covered in bug stuff as well as the entire bottom of the bag. I took it all outside and dumped all of the bug-riddled stuff in a garbage bag and put it in the trash. I cleaned the inside of the bag with some Lysol spray cleaner and left it outside to dry.
I warped the loom to its full width using the Cupcake yarn, adjusting the color runs a little. The yarn is very sproingy - it will be interesting to see how it affects the finished project.
In my stash, I found some souvenir yarn that I'd purchased during one of our visits to the Daughter when she lived in Baltimore, MD. It's hand-dyed in similar colors to the Cupcake yarn. I've named the project Cylburn Wrap [Ravelry] in honor of the Cylburn Arboretum in Baltimore.
