WIP-it Wednesday...
...and some knitting.
A friend asked is I could make some Highland cows to make knitted animals that I made her one Christmas. After looking in Ravelry, I found a mini Highland Cow pattern that seemed like it would be the right size. It uses DK yarn, which is something I don't use very often.
I knew that I didn't have the right color yarn in my stash, and even if I did, it's all stored away in the POD for the remodel. I found some DK yarn at Michael's in the right colors and had to settle for a worsted to get the right contrasting color for the snout and legs. I also bought a set of DPNs in the right size (my needles are also stored in the POD).
Since I have experience of knitting small things, I wasn't too worried about the pattern. However, the instructions for the snout threw me and I had to backtrack to make it look right. I got it done, but it's too big to match the other animals. Hmmm.

Take 2: The animals that I made for my friend were from the Wee Woodland
Wuzzies pattern by Barbara Prime. SO I thought that I would try to modify the
pattern to get a cow that was the same size. Because I already had the DK yarn
and US 5 needles, I started with those.
I used the Mouse head,
Mouse tail, Fox body, and Fox ears as the base. I used the horns from my other
Highland Cow pattern. I added a chain stitch around the snout to emphasize it
more.
The snout isn't quite right, the horns are too big, and the
craft eyes are too big (the only ones I had). There are gaps in the stitches
after stuffing.

I
think I need to go down a needle size and figure out how to adjust the snout
and horns. The placement of the eyes and ears are right either...I didn't
leave enough space between the eyes and ears. Maybe a bigger head?
