I'm not sure which drives me more insane--reading part of a book series and then having to wait for the others to come out and then never finishing it because I don't remember enough of the first ones and I don't have time to go back and reread those HUGE MONSTROUS ENORMOUS earlier volumes, or vowing not to read the series until it's finished but everyone else is reading it and saying how good it is and they've made a cable series out of it fer cryin' out loud DANG YOU GEORGE!

The cable series is the reason I started reading George's books. I'd heard of the series, but it had never grabbed me until I saw it come to life on HBO. Now I'm hooked on both! I already have the next book pre-ordered from Amazon and it will download to my iPad as soon as it's available.

I love reading series. If I like the first book, I'll read the entire series one after another until I hit the end. And if I really like the series, I'll re-read it when I run our of new books to read. I'm currently re-reading the JD Robb "in Death" series. There are 32 books so far, with two new books released every year. Gotta love JD Robb/Nora Roberts...she is a prolific writer!

Back when Zelazny's Amber series came out, I reread all the preceding books when each new one came out. But back then (a) I didn't have two bookcases full of unread books and (b) each of the books was 170 pages instead of 800!

I'm only buying ebooks now, except for the occasional knitting or spinning book, or borrowing books from Sarah H.

I have 81 books on my iPad--that's 81 fewer books stacked up by my bed, under my bed, or crammed into the bookcases that are already 3 deep!

Sooooo when I pulled out Nine Princes in Amber to check how many pages it was, I had to read just the first few pages. Then the first chapter. Now, after 2 nights of reading, I'm about halfway through the 170 pages. So much for not having time to reread books. See what you started? I really do like this one, obviously. (Reading just after I've put my head down on the pillow is why it takes so long. Imagine trying to reread all the books in george's series when the next one comes out--it would take me all year, and I'd rather read something new!)
