WIP-it Wednesday...

...and I've got a few projects queued, finally!

I started one of them, but I've only got about 20 stitches done. Not worth taking a photo yet. It is called Horrified, a Halloween-themed mini from Just Nan.

My main WIP is packing up the studio. I discovered that I have way more yarn and fiber than I thought I had, plus a considerable amount of handspun. I already knew that I had too much fabric! 😁

I am having a great deal of fun researching potential furniture for the new studio. I'd like to replace some of the older items with real furniture.

The current furniture is a mix of good pieces (Ikea Expedit bookshelves, Horn of America sewing cabinet, table top), workable pieces (Target bookcases and cloth drawers, Michael's cube organizers, 2 storage benches), and a couple of old pieces (bookcase from the Daughter's old room and an armoire). I also have a small recliner and a swivel Crate and Barrel chair that we bought at the consignment store. Not considered furniture, but I need to be able to accommodate my larger tools such as my floor loom, spinning wheels, magnifier lamp, and stitching floor stand.

Here's the 2020 view of the room:

I definitely don't need both chairs, so the swivel chair will cycle out and I'll keep the small recliner. Also, I'll keep the worktable for now (two Target bookcases and an Ikea desk top), the Expedit bookcase, and the sewing cabinet. I'll probably hang on to the two storage benches. We got rid of the armoire as soon as I packed up the contents -- it was old and not very useful anymore.

Things that I will/might add:

  • Ikea Kallax bookcase, the same size and approximate color as the Expedit. I've been happy with the Expedit, but they no longer make it.
  • A more flexible bookcase than the current one. In addition to being old, it is not really designed to be a dedicated bookcase - the shelves are divided 1/3 narrow, 2/3 wide. See:

Bookcase and sewing area

  • A rolling cabinet or two that have real drawers. Currently, some of the Michael's pieces have 3 narrow drawers that are perfect for pencils and tools, but they stack on top of each other rather than have separate drawer glides. That means that you have to be careful opening the middle drawer so that the top one doesn't fall down on the bottom one.
  • An enclosed cat box that doubles as a place for my printer. During the winter, the cats stay with me in my studio and they need a box. It's too cold or wet for me to leave the door open for them to go back and forth into the house (through the courtyard).

I'm working with a rough area of 15' x 24' to lay out the studio components. The remaining 5' x 24' will be taken up by a bathroom (5x8), the laundry area, and room for an exterior entrance. I'm losing the office alcove (see above photo), part of the laundry area, and the wet bar. Until I see the plans from the architect, I won't know how much wall space I'll have along/in that 5' x 24' area to place things.
