getting back to normal is the dream...

...that's not going to happen for a while. We're dealing with some family issues, both on my side of the family and on the ex's side of the family. Aging is not pretty and with it comes the inevitable. The inevitable has happened for one family member and another is close. The Husband and I are fine, though. We're helping the Daughter and other relatives cope. So posting might be a bit sporadic for a couple of weeks. (I know: what's new?!) I'll have some crafting time in there somewhere. I think I can continue to make [slow] progress on my projects. That's all I can hope for at this point. .

just another Eye Candy Friday...

...so ready for the weekend! So let's play a little Eye Candy Catch-up, shall we? The reunion last Saturday was held at my Aunt Margaret's home in Hollister. Her home is on a corer and her yard is pretty big. She has a large garden of cacti and succulents, some of which are fairly old. Not sure what this plant is, but it attracted a lot of bees: The cactus flowers were very interesting with the random green sprouts: Some of the barrel cacti were huge and alien-like: with cool ridges. On Monday night, there were spectacular cloud formations and a nearly full moon. Here is a picture of the moonrise: That night we had a huge storm....lots of thunder, lightning, and heavy rain. Up this weekend: I need to work on the baby quilt and get it as close to done as possible. One of the issues I'm having is that some of the squares contain a random scattering of animals, making outline quilting difficult and time-consuming. Since I don't do free-motion...

WIP-it Wednesday...

...ignore the fact that I didn't post on Monday or Tuesday, 'k?  At least I have an excuse for Monday. It's called: Internet problems. It's hard to post when you have no connectivity! It's about time for a WIP roll call, so here we go. WIPs in Rotation : The Sky is Purple and Full of Stars (Southern Skies) shawl [ Ravelry ] - I'm 70% done; working on round 154 of 158 charted rows. I have ordered some magatama beads for the edging so I might have to put that on hold until I receive them. However, I'm hoping that I've timed this right and I get the beads by the time I can start on the edging. We'll see! What Do You See in the Sea? quilt  (quilting) - No progress in 2 weeks. Still need to finish the machine quilting and bind it. Anasazi by Susan Portra (needlepoint) - I've decided to just finish it. At this point about about 50% done and the thought of redoing that section makes me twitchy. Happy Pumpkin Scissor Fob by Shepherd's Bush...

hello Friday...

...it's been a week.  I still have a cough, but I feel fine. Gotta love those summer colds. :( No pictures today as I had nothing new to photograph (read: nothing I haven't already taken 50 million pictures of). Up this weekend: One of my maternal aunts is giving a family reunion and we are going tomorrow (at least for a while). I might have mentioned these are 4-day affairs...I'm lucky I work. Otherwise I'd have to be there a lot more than Saturday! I really need more sleep more than anything, but my mom expects me to be there. It's 60 miles from here and in a part of the valley that's usually a lot hotter than home. The camera is going with me and I hope to get some family pictures. Hmmm, I wonder if I can work on the Southern Skies shawl in the car. Sunday will be my day to catch up with things at home and rest. Yeah, that will work. .

...I'm feeling a lot better and am now back to working full days. I missed WIP-It Wednesday yesterday.  I hope to get back to a regular blog schedule soon! Before I got sick, I did manage to get a little machine quilting done on the baby quilt, so at least I made a little progress. I did a little clean up around the studio to pick up the stray yarn orts from the shawl finishing and put away a the beads and pearls I'd pulled out when doing the fringe. Guess what?! I found the Happy Pumpkin scissor fob WIP that I lost several months ago. Score! When I'd had enough of quilting, I sat down and worked on the fob. As it turned out, I didn't have much to stitch on the front and the back went very quickly. I started this puppy in 2009 and tried to work on it in 2010 when my eyes started going bad. I had to stop when it got too hard to see the linen threads. Anyway,  the stitching is done now...yay! I need to trim the fabric and stitch it into a fob before I can de...

best laid plans...

...were waylaid by a summer cold.  I started feeling bad on Saturday and by Sunday afternoon,  the cold had hit full-force.  It's in my chest and throat...and I feel like some one has kicked me in the ribs. I'm still getting some cycles of fever, so I'm not working full days. Maybe tomorrow. .

Eye Candy Friday...

...given that the garden is mostly ripening tomatoes, I wasn't sure whether I'd find anything to photograph today. However, there were a few things. A ripening apple that the squirrels somehow missed: A nasturtium: and a flower on our strawberry plants: Up this weekend: I don't plan on going anywhere except the grocery store! After last weekend's revelries that took us away from home most of the time, I need to do a little housekeeping. My floors need some serious cleaning and the house needs to be straightened up. When that's done,  I can swing over to the next project to complete.  I plan on spending quality time with the baby quilt and finish the machine quilting. If I'm lucking I might be able to bind it, but that would be a bonus. There's lots of tricking quilting to do and it might take me most of the weekend. However, if it gets too hot, all bets are off! I am now working on round 139 of 158 of the Southern Skies shawl. I'll ...
