Livin' La Needle Loca

...gee, where did that month go??? Finally finished my big work project yesterday. Yay! That took a lot of time and energy, leaving very little left over for crafty things. I haven't spun since the weekend and I only managed to knit a couple of rows on my socks. I really need this long weekend! So, let's catch-up a little... Last day of August sky picture, just cuz: Here is the latest installment from the Rockin' Sock Club, called Flower Power. Lots of people have posted pictures of the full skein, so I've show you a close-up of the yarn and the emergency skein. Here's the first bobbin of the Blue Moon roving from Spunky Eclectic . You can see that it's thicker than my previous singles and I've purposely introduced a little thick-thin character to it. I split the roving in half and spun this bobbin in one chunk to get long spans of color. I'm spinning the second half in lengthwise strips to get shorter span of color. ...because I ran out of time this morning. My weekend did not exactly go as planned. I took my car in for routine maintenance that turned out not to be so routine. Besides the tune-up, which is not cheap, replacing a light that was out, and fixing my non-functional data port (cigarette lighter port), they are replacing a bunch of things that are leaking and could lead to future problems with the fuel pump, So, they kept my car to finish working on it. Tonight, we get to pay lots of $$ to pick it up. Great...just what we needed. I could show you a picture of the new Rockin' Sock club installment that I received, but... I did manage to get a little knitting done, but not as much as I wanted. No point in showing you a picture of the Fawkes socks because they don't look significantly different from Friday. I'm just a slow knitter. I started a new roving on the wheel, Blue Moon in Corriedale from Spunky Eclectic . I'm spinning it a bit thicker, although not as thick as Merma...

...I'll close this week with some chile pepper pictures from the Husband's garden. Purple-black peppers... ...and twisty green ones. Also, here's an updated picture of the Fawkes socks. The colors aren't quite right, but very close! I love how these are turning out. I just wish I had more time to work on them. Up this weekend, tomorrow I take my car in for maintenance. I'll work on the Fawkes socks while I wait for the car to get done. Other than that, no other plans; I'll just take the rest of the weekend as it comes. A little cleaning, a little spinning, a little knitting, who knows what else! Have a good one!

...at least nothing that I can show. I've been working on a project journal for my spinning and knitting. Showing you a picture of a book is not exactly thrilling! I think I've mentioned before that I have an online database to track my projects. I created it several years ago using FileMaker Pro. It works very well for me and I've expanded it to include yarns and roving. However, you can't put samples of yarn or knitting in the database, so I need a separate project book for that. I used my Michaels coupon to buy an artists Drawing Book that is 7x10 inches. It is wire-O bound and has 120 pages of 90-pound, acid free drawing paper. I really didn't want 120 pages, but I liked the size of the book and the 90-pound paper will hold up well. I may have to rebind it if it gets too bulky, but I can worry about that later. I'm trying to decide whether to print label stock with the details I need for the spinning or knitting project. The plus is that I can export most o...

...for most of the weekend. Totally ignored the house and just got crafty! I started a new roving on the wheel: This is "Peacock" in Corriedale from Spunky Eclectic . Lots of blues and greens, very pretty. The only drawback is that the color bleeds a little on my hands as I spin it. I hope that I can get most of the excess out when I wash it, otherwise I'll have to be careful how I use this yarn. On the knitting front, I finished the cuff, knit the heel flap, turned the heel, and started the gusset on the Fawkes socks. I really like how they look. No pictures of those today; maybe later when I have the gusset finished. This week I plan on working on the socks and doing some spindle spinning. I haven't touched the spindle in a couple of weeks, so it's time to get back to it.

...still trying to catch up on sleep! I did get back in to a more regular routine. I managed to get to both my Pilates class and my Yoga class this week. I can really feel it when I don't take my yoga class! No additional spinning or knitting this week, but I did get a chance to look at the new fibers I ordered from Yarn Wench . I love her colors and I love the Falkland wool she uses. I can't seem to resist her stuff, but I need to hold off buying any more until I spin more of the fiber stash! The latest colors I bought from her are Flamethrower 2, which I showed you last Friday, Plume Smoke 1, and Deep Night 2. Right now, pictures of these three are on her Spinning Fibers page as "sale pending" fibers. Eventually, they'll get moved to her Sold Spinning Fibers pages. [Sigh] So much fiber to spin, so little time!
